Les Fermières Obsédées is a collective of three
artists from Quebec: Annie Baillargeon, Eugénie Cliche and Catherine Plaisance. Located
in Quebec City, the collective works chiefly in performance and is
characterized by kitsch, eccentric uniforms and nonsensical stagings designed
to critique the modern world. The women often perform at public markets, in
department store windows and on commercial streets. Grounded in a reflection on
human interrelations, their art is a blend of tragedy and burlesque. It has
been seen mainly in Canada, but also in Wales, Poland, Ireland and Australia. True to
form, the trio is spurning conventional exhibition venues at ORANGE, opting
instead to produce an installation and performances inspired by games,
carnivals and parades in a downtown Saint-Hyacinthe park.
