GIORGIA VOLPE
L'anchuss, 2012

Giorgia Volpe

Giorgia Volpe is inspired by stories from all walks of life, creating interventions and interactions rooted in the habitat, exhibition space and social context. She has lived and worked in Quebec City since 1998 and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of São Paulo, the city of her birth, and a master’s degree from Université Laval. Two parallel and complementary approaches characterize her work: the first, social in nature, gives rise to ephemeral, one-off interventions in diverse communities and explores collective memory; while the other, more intimate, emphasizes sensorial and affective memory through photography and video. Over the years, she has worked with a variety of groups of people, including farmers, fishermen, nurses and psychiatric hospital patients. For ORANGE 2012, Giorgia Volpe is presenting Ouvre-moi and L’anchuss, an inclusive visual, sound and performative installation in two parts inspired by the notions of interval, waiting and breathing in the world of hunting. Anchuss is a German word used by hunters in Quebec to describe the place where the bullet strikes the hunted animal, the hole from which its blood spurts, the wound that attracts the dogs. The sound for this project was created during an artist’s residency at Avatar.
