Denis Rousseau

Langagement

January 21 to March 5, 2006

For thirty or so years, Montreal artist Denis Rousseau has been producing hybrid kinetic sculptures, along with photographs and videos. Dominated by a quest for identity, his work deals with life, death, religion, sexuality, the power of images, and speaking out. For him, these are matters of commitment, and this aspect of his work will be pointed up in the exhibition, principally through the notion of language. Playfulness, sound, narrative structure, kinetics, seductiveness and perceptions of the body are some of the means he uses to recount, communicate and make contact with others. This retrospective is produced by the Musée régional de Rimouski and curated by Mona Hakim, who has selected close to a dozen works made since 1989.
