ORANGE is back! It's been three years since the first edition sent ripples of excitement across the country, and now Saint-Hyacinthe is geared up for another vibrantly dynamic cultural event. Driven by the initial desire to create a think tank on present-day art by professionals dealing with our relationship to food, the second edition of ORANGE is taking place from September 8 to October 22, 2006.

The works produced for ORANGE 2006 serve to address a variety of "art and food" issues. They bring us face to face with our contradictions; they point up our values and behaviour; in a word, they cause us to reconsider our individual, collective and cultural conduct. In an artistic event like ORANGE, the agri-food theme prompts reflection on art, of course, but it also throws open a window onto current events in general. Along with the invited artists, the curators of ORANGE 2006, Eve-Lyne Beaudry, Marcel Blouin, Catherine Nadon and Myriam Tétreault, offer the public both fertile ground for appreciating contemporary art and a venue that fosters awareness of how we live our daily lives.

The second edition of ORANGE owes much to the dedication of countless people and the backing of many organizations and funding agencies. Our thanks go to EXPRESSION, Centre d'exposition de Saint-Hyacinthe, the main event partner, and its team for their indispensable contribution. We also salute the commitment of its chair, Jean-Marie Pelletier, whose support has been vital to bringing this event to pass.

Lastly, and at the risk of repeating ourselves, we want to stress that, without artists, there would be no event. So, to the artists of ORANGE 2006, to those from Quebec and other areas of Canada, from Argentina, Mexico and the United States, we say, Thank you!

Welcome to ORANGE 2006. We hope visitors of all ages will come in droves and with lively curiosity.
