Born in Cold
Lake, Alberta, Marc
Dulude lives and works in Montréal. An emerging artist, he already has with
exhibitions in Canada, France and Nigeria to his credit. His art is
driven by a desire to astonish, distract, surprise and entertain, and the
impact of the brightly coloured sculptural objects he makes from everyday items
is central to his approach. In his hands, society’s activities and habits serve
to represent the absurd. The installation he is showing at ORANGE –Jardin d’artifices [Garden of artifice]
– was made for La Démesure. Glaneurs
contemporains, a two-man show shared with Jérôme Fortin at the Musée
régional de Rimouski in 2003. This “garden” is composed of recycled soft drink
bottles and mechanical flying creatures. Human domination of the natural
environment, in exploiting the land and consuming to excess, offers a telling
perspective for viewing this work at ORANGE.
