Born in Saint-Hyacinthe,
Marc-Antoine K. Phaneuf lives and works in Montréal. He is the co‑founder
of the QQistes collective and pursues a personal practice as well. His works
serve to inquire into the artistic act and cast a critical eye on the status of
the artist. He uses video as an artistic medium but also as a means of
capturing performance art. In Grosse
Poutine [Large poutine], a single-shot video work produced
for ORANGE,
Phaneuf stages himself wolfing down fast food, ironically recasting the
nutritional act as artistic act. This production demonstrates the close link
between our dietary choices and cultural phenomena. The spare editing and the
use of black and white recall the birth of video art, a medium now light years
beyond.
