Born in 1973 in Mexico City, Raul Ortega Ayala lives in London, England. He holds an M.F.A. from the Glasgow School of Art and a degree from Mexicos National School of Painting, Sculpture and Print, and also studied philosophy. Active in the visual arts since 1996, he has presented works and interventions in numerous shows in England, Mexico, Argentina, the United States, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands and China. His interest in cycles is evident in Melting Pots, the project shown at ORANGE. This installation features a fiction based on the story of the pots and pans originaly made by Indian firms out of scrap metal from the World Trade Center and sold worldwide, notably in the Middle East. An intervention is also planned, with Ayala preparing food in the exhibited cookware.
